From: Land use alters cross-ecosystem transfer of high value fatty acids by aquatic insects
Modeled seasonal patterns of fatty acid (FA), saturated fatty acid (SFA), monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) export from streams of the total emergence including non-biting midges, mayflies, stoneflies, and caddisflies. The values were derived with hierarchical generalized additive models (HGAM) fitted with 354 observations. Solid lines represent the predicted mean fit values of the HGAM, and the ribbon shows ± 2 standard errors around the mean fit. Dots indicate significant differences (non-overlapping 95% confidence intervals at alpha = 0.05) between agricultural and forested sites. Blue shows the seasonal patterns in agriculture and green in forest for a FA export, b SFA export, c MUFA export, and d PUFA export.
